March 8th is a very special day for women and girls across the world. On this day, the world recognizes the contributions, sacrifices and achievements made by women. We too celebrated Women’s Day in Dadaab, Kenya in hopes to bring women and girls together to celebrate their achievement, acknowledge the challenges, and a call for equality. The theme for 2015 Women’s Day was Make It Happen which encouraged effective action for advancing and recognizing women across the world. Our Dadaab team celebrated International Women’s Day by inviting all women and girls to our community center in Dagahaley, Hagadera and Ifo. Our team wanted to provide a platform to support and inspire women and girls in their communities.
Women have an innate resilience and strength. Uprooted from their home communities, these women have built a vibrant community. The women in the refugee camp of Dadaab have clearly shown that despite the odds they have protected and provided their families with food, shelter, and above all, a hope for a better future. Here are some memories of the celebrations-
