Zeynep F Beykont, Independent Educational Researcher and Advisor

Zeynep F. Beykont is an independent scholar in the field of minority education.  She received her doctoral degree in Human Development and Psychology from Harvard Graduate School of Education (Ed.D.’94) and pursued postdoctoral research in the Department of Urban Studies and Planning at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.  Throughout her career, she has worked as a teacher, research fellow, literacy specialist, research director, educational policy advisor, associate professor of educational sociology, program evaluator, educational consultant, and principal investigator in public schools, university-based research institutes, transnational development organizations, private research organizations, and nongovernmental organizations.

Beykont investigates literacy development, STEM success, and cultural adaptation of minority youth in varied country, policy, and program contexts.  Her recent studies have focused on unschooled Muslim girls’ educational achievement in community-based computer literacy programs across Turkey; STEM engagement and success of minority youth in after-school programs based in science museums in the United States; Turkish immigrant youth’s biliteracy and bicultural development in varied K-12 language program settings in Australia, Greece, and Cyprus.
